Using Rovo Studio to build Forge Apps to Solve Real World Problems
When Roku’s Project Shield tightened contractor permissions in Jira and Confluence, managing access requests manually wasn't scalable. To solve this, we leveraged Atlassian’s Rovo Studio to kickstart three custom Forge apps: a Permissions Lookup Tool, custom Jira Automation Actions, and a Confluence Access Error Helper pop-up.

This isn’t a highlight reel — it’s an honest, practical guide for anyone who’s been handed Jira ownership without feeling fully ready for it, built from actually living through that learning curve.

Claude is great at general dev, and confidently wrong the second you say "Forge." Wrong manifest fields, hallucinated imports, deprecated UI Kit syntax. This 20-minute live-coding talk shows the 5 minute fix: a 3 file context pack (CLAUDE.md, a Forge cheatsheet, and an llms.txt index of canonical docs) that turns Claude Code into a real Forge collaborator. We build the same Confluence macro twice - once cold, once with the pack - and watch the difference. You leave with a folder structure you can drop into any new Forge project, and the same pattern works for any framework Claude wasn't trained deeply on.

We'll move beyond Forge features and explore Forge architecture at a systems-design level. Through real-world examples, you'll learn how seemingly impossible requirements can be solved with the right patterns and mindset. How do you refresh data every 30 seconds when scheduled triggers are not able to? Crazy long pagination, processing millions of work items? etc...
The answer isn't more Forge APIs, it's learning how to design distributed solutions where Forge is one component of a larger architecture. If you've ever been told "Forge can't do that," this session is for you.
